The 2018 DIY Street Fair is back in Ferndale for its 11th year. For the uninitiated, the DIY Street Fair is Ferndale’s biggest art and music festival as it brings in more than 150 artists, makers and, well, do-it-yourselfers. For one weekend (September 21-23), the area of downtown Ferndale on Nine Mile Rd., just east of Woodward Ave., transforms into a central hub for these artists to show the people of Metro Detroit their talents, sell some of their products and just have a good time.

It all started as a creative call to arms,” said DIY Street Fair co-producer Mike Pierce. “11 years ago, the economy wasn’t doing so well and more and more people began to embrace their passion and their creativity.”

The Silverado is the official sponsor of your next home improvement project.

New to the Fair this year is a partnership with the Metro Times to bring the People’s Choice Award. Those attending on Saturday, Sept. 22 can vote for their favorite artist. The winner will be announced on Sunday, Sept. 23.

Some of the artists you can expect to find at the Fair include Arsenal Handicraft, Detroit GT, Electric Vector LLC and Ink Detroit. Whether you’re interested in glassware, paintings, jewelry, clothing, or just about any other form of art, there’s something for you. As mentioned, there are more than 150 vendors. Musicians will be taking to the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers stage to perform for you all weekend long. You’ll hear from Cloud Nothings, Black Tie Circus, Brother Son, Mackinac, Reverend Peyton and His Big Damn Band, and many more. There will also be official after parties at The Loving Touch with performances by Double Winter, Caveman Woodman and more.

Artist Leslie Gauthier of Gingerly Made designed a limited edition poster for the DIY Street Fair this year. Only 200 copies were printed and they can be purchased at the fair.

Every year, the DIY Street Fair works with several non-profit organizations to help promote the work they do. This year’s represented non-profit organizations include Bark Nation, Six Feet Over, Girls Rock Detroit, Dog Aide, Detroit Together Men’s Chorus and Friends of Ferndale Public Library.

This will be the sixth year your Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers have been involved in the DIY Street Fair. This year, we are returning as the title sponsor of the Fair.

“The DIY Street Fair has grown and expanded in many ways, allowing more artists…more music…and more activities to keep people entertained,” said Pierce. “All as a free admission event, which is only possible by support from like-minded sponsors that want to keep the vibe and continue to celebrate true creativity. Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers embodies the drive and excitement, so it’s a wonderful relationship.”
